Sports have never been a large part of my life, and for the most part I have always been fine with that. It just never stuck with me in the same way that it does for so many people around the world. Growing up in Colorado I do have a basic loyalty to the Rockies, Av's, and Broncos (I'm sure some people would pin the explanation my ambivalence towards professional sports right here) but I have showed that more by wearing their hats and less by watching the games.
That level of commitment was perfectly fine with me, until recently. When I got married I gained a whole set of "sports fanatic" in-laws and a wife who shares that excitement. In addition to this during my seminary internship I learned just how surprising it is to people that wearing a cubs hat doesn't mean that you know who is pitching for them. I have decided that I need to become a passable fan of some sports team if I ever want to relate to a sizable percentage of future congregants.
This is not the first time I have tried this but I am hoping that this blog will help keep me accountable to reading articles on ESPN.com. So if you are interested in an outsiders view of professional sports or feel like helping out some clueless sports fan wannabe this is the place for you.
On a related note the NCAA bracket I filled out somewhat randomly this year is sitting pretty with 35 correct picks in the middle of my church's group!
